When I speak of the word free I don’t mean in reference to free material things or free from work responsibilities. Although when those opportunities of free come along it can be great.
But today I’m talking about a different kind of free. The free that comes when you finally get to a place where the value and purpose of your life is no longer validated or defined by what others think or say. What do I mean by this? It means when you truly grasped your value and purpose you become unstoppable. Unstoppable and free to move forward with a confidence and boldness like never before. You become the best advocate for you, no longer allowing others to determine your course of life.

This type of free comes with a high price tag. It’s price was to high for any one on this earth to pay. But this rare kind of free has already been paid for by our Creator and is available to us if we so choose to grab hold of it. It’s an oxymoron but “to gain your life you must lose it first”. And this my friends is the stumbling block for most, and why the majority of us end up only experiencing fragments of free.

But I am here as a living testimony as one who has surrendered my life and given it back to the one who created it. I am an intelligent design and ONLY my Intelligent Designer knows the blueprints for my life. When I place my full trust in The One who created me I experience the phenomenon of rebirth. And it is at this place my friends that you are FREE. I encourage you over this weekend to spend some quiet reflective time contemplating if you also want to experience this amazing type of FREE.

Abundant Life

I like order and structure. I like to group things into boxes so that I can process them.  I was pondering on this trait of mine one morning in my worship when my Creator provided me with an epiphany.  The best piece of wisdom I received from Him that morning. I learned that when you fully take hold of a true abundant life there are no boxes.  A life lived under the Creator’s idea for you is a life of authenticity and truth of self. This kind of life has NO LIMITS as to what you can do!

This made me think about God’s words in John 10:10…

John 10

God wants me to be the best me! So many of us go through life never truly experiencing the best them.  Some haven’t even discovered their true self. They are living a life that has been defined by someone else.  I too once lived a half full life.  And when I lived that half full life I always felt like there had to be more to life than this. Then and only then when I began to explore these questions with my Creator did I begin to learn and fully grasped what my Creator wants for me.  He wants me to live a life with no boundaries of what He can and will do through me.  He wants me to live John 10:10!

I encourage you to spend time learning about you.  Do not shy away from your true self. Explore you and discover your John 10:10.

Blackbird Fly

Life is peculiar at times.  It can seem the ones who are given the biggest dreams appear to have the worst obstacles and setbacks.  Sometimes these obstacles make it impossible to even fathom the possibility of achieving your dreams.  Some of the brightest most sincere kind hearted people I know seem like they have been dealt a bad stack of cards.  Often times their lives are drenched with injustices, poverty and lack of opportunities.  This can crush the spirit and cause self-doubt, discouragement, depression and sometimes anger.  This crushed spirit begins to feed the mind continuous negative thoughts that cause a vicious cycle of unhealthy choices.  Choosing poor relationships, lack of self-care and some may turn to the fast past night life, all these things masquerades the hurt of broken dreams.

I am a person who believes in God.  I also believe that He is a very personal God who welcomes dialogue even uncomfortable topics that question Him.  I asked Him one day about these “Black Birds” people who seem to be given an unfair shot at life.  His response amazed me He said, “I placed the most beautiful minds and spirits inside of them. They are the ones with purpose far bigger than they can imagine.  They have the gift of intuition coupled with feelings of compassion to change the world.  They have been gifted with the ability to commune with me and hear me speak in their life.” He continued to say, “There is so much more but you wouldn’t be able to comprehend it all. The complexity of this world is beyond your understanding.  There is a limit to what you are capable of grasping.”

But, He summed it up with these words, “The ones with the biggest challenges, setbacks and hardships are the ones who hold the greatest impact. They carry within them a fight and persistent, perseverance and tenacity of hope.  Their life is not one of punishment for the beautiful jewels are the ones that have been refined through the fire. I love and care for them dearly my presence is always near even when it’s hard to see.  I gave my Son Jesus this same cross to bear when He walked this earth…A life of poverty and hardship, just as His reward was great so shall yours be also.  You are not the forgotten you’re my greatest testimony of over comers.  It’s your stories that encourage, empower and inspire others.  It’s your stories that teach us love.  It’s your stories that plant seeds in others and makes the gardens of life grow.”

Looking Beyond the Surface

I’m so thankful for a God who sees.  God is not a God ONLY for the social elite or the “Elites Christian” He is the God of the marginalized, outcasted, poverty stricken, oppressed, mis-fits,  single mothers, Blacks, Whites, Brown and Yellow, Gays, Lesbians, Bi-sexual’s and Transgender.  It is not mankind’s position to place judgement on ANYONE.  We are finite creatures and incapable of knowing the spiritual  journey a person is on.
I write and speak on these issues with passion and sincerity because I know how it feels to be viewed an outcast. I know how it feels to be talked about and judged by the church.  I know how it feels to have this enormous amount of love and gratitude to God but feel outcasted from corporate worship because the church has made you feel as if “kinds like you” are not welcomed.  So you end up leaving or staying away from the church.  I write with BOLDNESS when I say…
KNOW you are LOVED
KNOW you are WELCOMED by Him

“By this time a lot of men and women of doubtful reputation were hanging around Jesus, listening intently. The Pharisees and religion scholars were not pleased, not at all pleased. They growled, “He takes in sinners and eats meals with them, treating them like old friends.” Their grumbling triggered this story.” Luke 15 1-3 MSG

An Open Letter to the Christian Moderate

I’ve come to realize that the greatest stumbling block to spreading the message of Jesus Christ isn’t the atheist, anti-religious, or non-believers in Jesus the Son of God.   It’s the Christian Moderate who is more devoted to “order”, “traditions”, “rules”, “social status”, “judging in self-righteous” than to social justice and equality, acceptance of all, love, non-judgmental attitude and selflessness.  Who prefers warming their church seat and having hallelujah praise the Lord good time in church while they turn around and judge and talk about their neighbor behind their back…who prefer their after church potlucks where the conversation is anything but holy or their church committee positions rather than have the willingness and courage to truly be the Good Samaritan…to stand for Christ love even at the risk of being labeled an outcast or tension maker.  The Christian Moderate has been more cautious than courageous and has remained silent behind the false security of stained glass windows. todays christian This frame of mind must change my fellow Christians.  This mind set from being the person who says at the church meetings “I agree we must evangelize”, but unwilling to think outside the box and try new progressive ways to bring others to Christ…who believes we can continue the same ole conservative traditional ways of reaching others…who lives by a mythical concept of change and growth.  A shallow understanding of Christ true mission for the church with good intentions is more frustrating than misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection. I do not say these things as one who’s always looking to find fault with the church.  I say this as a passionate committed follower of Jesus Christ who loves His church and has been sustained by the spiritual blessings of experiencing the love, forgiveness, grace and mercy of choosing a relationship with Him.  I choose to remain true to Christ and His church until my dying days.  However, these poignant words written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., still ring true today, “If today’s church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century.”  I often meet young people whose disappointment with the church has turned into outright disgust…so my message comes from a place of love and passion of wanting others to have the opportunity to experience “The True Nature of Jesus Christ” to experience His “Essence of Love”. true christians

The Essence of Love

God Loves ALL

As a society I find there is a misconception about the true nature of God.  Although there maybe a number of reasons for this, I believe religion is partly to blame.  As a person who was raised in the church, from my perspective, it seemed the focus was more on teaching the constructs of the religion rather than the teachings of God’s love.  I was taught the do’s and don’ts, the formalities, and culture of my religion.  However, the depth of understanding the true nature of God was missing.  It wasn’t until I began my own quest of understanding the God I served that I was able to see Him through different lenses.  A God who immensely loves the humanity He created.  So much so that even during a period of ours world’s history He came to live among us to reveal is true character.  However, His teachings were not favored by the religious institutions.  His philosophy made them uncomfortable under their mask.  He spoke and lived truth that exposed the fallacies of the formalities that the religious carried so much pride in.

God’s heart is for humanity.  God’s love is not bound to any religious group.  His love accepts our choice rather to believe in Him or not.  He places the highest value on a life of humility, service and help to mankind.  He has a passion for social justice and equality, advocacy for the voiceless.  It’s the things this world considers little that are so big in His eyes.   This is the God I know…God of Love.
